Frequently Asked Questions

The 12 questions every medical traveler asks — answered straight, no sales language.

Are Chinese hospitals safe for major surgery?

Our network hospitals are Grade 3A — China's highest public hospital classification — teaching institutions performing thousands of major surgeries annually. Individual surgeons routinely exceed 300 procedures per year, several times typical Western volume — and surgical volume is one of the strongest predictors of outcomes. With every quote we provide the credentials of the professor who would treat you, so you can verify independently.

Why is surgery in China so much cheaper?

Three structural reasons. First, national Volume-Based Procurement pools demand across all public hospitals, cutting implant and drug prices 70–90%. Second, public-hospital surgical fees are set by government price schedules, not by hospital revenue targets. Third, the US billing stack — insurance negotiation, coding, prior authorization, cost-shifting — simply doesn't exist here. The implant in your hip is the same design sold in American hospitals.

Do the doctors and staff speak English?

Partner hospitals run dedicated international departments with English-speaking staff. Tsingtao Cure provides English-speaking coordination at every appointment, and professor consultations are interpreted whenever needed. All reports, quotes and discharge summaries come to you in English.

How do I pay?

International Visa/Mastercard, bank transfer, and cash are all accepted at hospital international departments — we confirm the best option for your case. You receive an itemized written quote before anything is booked, and payment goes directly to the hospital. There is no surprise billing; if anything changes clinically, you approve the revised cost before it happens.

What happens if there are complications?

You would be in a Grade 3A tertiary hospital with full ICU capability — the environment you'd want if anything unexpected occurred, and better than many patients' home options. Complication management is part of the treatment episode, your case stays with the professor who operated, and your family is kept informed in English at every step.

Can my family come with me?

Yes, and we encourage it. Companions share your accommodation, get the same airport pickup and coordination support, and can attend consultations. Many families use the trip to run health screenings for a spouse or parent — see our checkup programs.

What about follow-up care after I fly home?

You leave with a complete English discharge summary, all imaging in DICOM format, and a medication plan formatted for your doctor at home. Video follow-up with your surgeon is scheduled at 2 and 6 weeks, and your English coordination line stays open throughout.

Do I need a visa?

Citizens of 55 countries can enter visa-free for up to 240 hours (10 days) in transit — enough for most surgical trips. Longer recoveries use a standard tourist visa supported by our hospital invitation letter. Full details in our visa guide.

Is my medical information confidential?

Yes. Your records go only to the physicians assessing your case, under medical confidentiality, transmitted through secure channels — and deleted on request after your treatment episode.

How do I start?

Submit the free consultation form with your basic information and condition. Within 24 hours you receive a specialist's preliminary opinion and an itemized quote. Nothing is charged and nothing is booked until you decide — and deciding against treatment is a perfectly good outcome too.

Who arranges flights, hotels and local transport?

You book flights (we advise on the visa-smart routing); we handle airport pickup, hotel or serviced-apartment booking, and every appointment transfer. It all lands in one written itinerary before you fly.

What if I decide against surgery after the consultation?

Then the consultation did exactly its job. If non-surgical treatment is more appropriate, your specialist tells you so and helps arrange it. The opinion is free either way.
